A user account functions as a container for a single user’s devices. Users cannot restore files from another user’s devices unless they have the appropriate administrative privileges. After a user is added, the Code42 app must be installed on each user's device in order to begin backup operations.

1. Sign in to the administration console.
2. (Version 6.5.x and later) Select Users > Active from the menu on the left.
   (In versions 6.0.x, select Users.)
3. Select Add a new user:
4. Select Add Users.
   
5. Select an organization for the new user.
6. Click Download sample file to download the template for adding users.
7. Modify the sample file:
   1. Delete the sample entry for 'John Doe'
   2. Add the information for your users in the following format (one line per user):¹
      firstName,lastName,username,email,password
   3. Password tips:
      • Passwords must be at least 8 characters, but we recommend 16 characters or more. Alternatively, use a unique passphrase, consisting of four or more random words.
      • Use a combination of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
      • Passwords cannot start or end with a space (spaces are okay elsewhere).
      • Never reuse passwords. Don't use a password for Code42 that you use for any other online account.
8. Save the modified file.
9. Drag and drop your saved users .txt file onto the Click or Drag and Drop File button, or click to browse to your user .txt file.
10. Select Add Users.
    
11. Download and install the Code42 app on the endpoint device, and sign in with the new user account.

¹ The username field does not appear in your template if your Code42 for Enterprise environment is fully-hosted, or you have an on-premises authority server and selected Usernames are email addresses.
