Last week, my Ultra wash dishwasher stopped draining. After taking the pump apart, I realized that the drain impeller had essentially disintergrated inside of the wash impeller, requiring replacement of both. The local Sears Parts Center provided me with part number 675806 (not the number for the impellers on the parts list, but it does appear to be correct based on a search online at sears by part number). Anyway, the wash impeller had a noticably longer shaft that the one I was replacing, but I tried to use it as is anyway. After assemblying the motor and pump, I couldn't attach the wash impeller because the screw included was too short. I was also unable to install the pump outlet because the fins on the bottom of the outlet were sitting directly on top of the wash impeller.
My answer to this problem involved a hacksaw - I measured the old wash iimpeller shaft and simply cut a small piece (1/2') off the new impeller. After removing that small piece, I was able to attached the impeller and the pump outlet. However, I also noticed that the drain impeller was able to move freely by hand until I attached the separator to the motor and pump. After the separator was installed, the impeller was no longer able to spin by hand. but, since I have never performed this particular repair before, I was uncertain if this was wrong. I finished the reassembly, put the motor and pump back in, reattched the water and drain lines, and reconnected the wiring. The water flows into the dishwasher fine, however, the motor can't turn. I do not know how long the drain impeller is supposed to be, since the shaft of that impeller is what disintegrated, causing all this in the first place.
Do you have any idea how long the shaft of the drain impeller should be? I suspect that this is the problem, but do not know how much length to take off without ruining the impeller. If anyone can tell me this measurement, I would be eternally grateful.
